PENDIDIKAN HOLISTIK: UPAYA KEMBALI KE AKAR PENDIDIKAN ISLAM
(Studi Kitab Ta’lim al-Muta’allim karya al-Zarnuji)
If you look back, basically the practice of education in Indonesia since the beginning is more likely to be holistic education, because education in Indonesia is more colored by Islamic education. It's just that in its journey there is a shift, especially when it comes in contact with education from the West which is influenced by positiveistic philosophy, and things like that continue to this day.
Scott H. Forbes and Robin Ann Martin in a paper - titled What Holistic Education Claims About Itself: An Analysis of Holistic Schools' Literature emphasizes that if one tries to trace the origins of holistic education it will be difficult because this concept has basically existed since ancient times and can be found in almost all concepts of education, one of the driving forces is humanitarian religious attitudes. In line with that opinion, it is important to trace the concept of hilistic education in Islam, especially those discussed in al-Zarnuji's Ta'lim al-Muta’allim.
Islamic education, including those listed in al-Zarnuji's Kitab Ta’limal-Muta’allim, illustrates a complete and holistic education that seeks to develop all the potential of both cognitive, affective and pro-motoric students, including physically and spiritually. The education is directed towards the attainment of the pleasure of Allah, and is not only for the sake of mere geography.
This kind of education is a necessity at this time, given the shift in values and enthusiasm in carrying out teaching and learning activities. This activity has lost its vital role in bringing students closer to God, so that those born are graduates who are secular and keep their knowledge and sources of knowledge away.
